First Ride Program

The First Ride Program is done in late August at a local area high school. You can register for the program and check the locations, dates and times on the buskids website.  The program explains to children and parents the different aspects of school bus safety and what they can expect that first day. The children watch a video that explains to them the different rules of the bus and what they are responsible for. The program covers discussion on

  • Danger Zones
  • Crossing in front of the School Bus
  • The proper way to sit on a School Bus

The presenters at the First Ride Program are school bus drivers themselves and will offer tips and observations they have garnered over their driving career. We hope to pass along safety tips to the children and their parents in order  to ease the process for the first day of school.

At conclusion of the First Ride Program the children go for a school bus ride with the driver and bus patrols. The children go on a short ride around the area and return to the school.  We would prefer a solo ride for your child but in some cases if the students are not ready to handle it parents are permitted to ride on the bus for the First Ride program, but that request cannot be accommodated once school starts.

Reflective VestPatrol Programs

The Patrol Program consists of six training stations in which bus patrols are trained to handle a large variety of issues that may arise on a school bus.

Bus Evacuations

Every school year we visit all of the schools that we provide service for and train the students for evacuations. We show the students the proper way evacuate a bus and what to do. We also take the time to reinforce the proper way to cross in front of a school bus and where the danger zones are around a bus.
